Disappointing Collection for 2011

10 10 2011

This years collection for Chard Carnival was £3091. This is approximately £550 down on last year. We were hoping for a good collection this year, so we are slightly disappointed – we even managed to raise more the year the carnival was abandoned!
The money raised is donated to local charities (with St Margaret’s Hospice this years main beneficiary). We fundraise throughout the year to cover our costs so that we can give more to charity, although this has been hard this year. I fear this year that, despite all the committees efforts, we won’t be able to give as much to charity as we would like.

Its not too late to donate money, however. If anyone wishes to donate, they can do so at Sues Flowers in Boden Street, or at Chard Garden Centre in Cuttisfords Door. Sues Flowers are donating £1 from every delivery this week to carnival funds.

Chard Carnival Results

12 10 2010

There were a few hold ups to this years procession, due to some casualties away from the carnival route. The ambulances had to traverse some of the route; with 2 ambulances from different directions meeting at one point! It was the floats last year, ambulances this year!

Chairperson Helena Stone said “I was very pleased with how the carnival went, and felt it was one of the best carnivals in Chard for a long time. We had the right weather, a good sized crowd and a very good line-up of entries. I was also pleased to see so many of the traders in Chard had kept their shops open into the night.

I would like to thank Chard Town Council for their grant of £900 towards carnival costs, Cllrs Jenny Kenton and Jill Shortland for the grant of £500 to cover license fees, PRS for Music, who have sponsored half of our license fees and finally, everyone who supported Chard Carnival, either by watching, or taking part, without which we couldn’t continue.”

The overall winners for floats and walking will not be announced until the South Somerset Federation of Carnival’s annual dance on November 20.  The results from the night are available to download here (PDF) Chard Carnival 2010 Results

Collectors wanted!

19 09 2010

The Chard and District Carnivals are fast approaching and as always we value the collectors.  Please remember that without dedicated collectors there could be no funds to distribute to the benefit of local organisations.

If your organisation could assist by collecting at this year’s children’s carnival on Saturday 2nd October and/or Procession night, which will be on Saturday 9th October 2010 please get in touch. You can download a form from our website (here) or use the contact form on the webpage.

We also welcome individual collectors (adults and children) and the appropriate forms are also available on our forms page.

Collecting tins can be collected from Manor Court School for the children’s carnival (from 11.30am onwards) and from Crowshute House for the main procession (from 5.10pm onwards). If the group/individual wish to wear ‘fancy dress’ this would be most acceptable and helps to create a carnival atmosphere. This year we will be awarding a prize for the best fancy dress. This will be judged at 6:30pm, outside Crowshute House.
