Annual Veteran Vintage & Classic Motorcycle Run

19 09 2014

CHARD CARNIVAL
ANNUAL VETERAN, VINTAGE & CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE RUN
2014

This has been an annual event for more than 15 years for veteran, vintage and classic motorcycles organised by Mr & Mrs Eric Stone and helpers. This year’s event is on Sunday 28th September and commences from Fore Street, Chard. After signing on in the Kelly Leigh Dance Studio, the first motorcycles leave at 11 a.m. for an 80 mile trip across some of the most scenic locations around Chard. It is a gentle ride across Somerset and Dorset, taking in some picturesque scenery with a lunch stop near Wincanton and returning to Chard for a cream tea.

In the past the motorcycles ranged from a 98 c.c. Brockhouse Corgi as used by the army to an 850 c.c. MV Agusta and a 2003 model Triumph Bonneville. Others include the famous Triumph Trophy, Norton Dominator, BSA Bantam and Velocette Venom. Riders come from as far as Torquay and Swindon to take part.

All proceeds go to Chard Carnival funds which are distributed to local

Up Coming and whats been going on for Chard Carnival

Chard Carnival & Events 2014
As we enter into autumn in Somerset it can only mean that carnival season is right around the
corner. Our Chard Carnival committee has been raising funds throughout the year and are preparing
for our two processions in October.
The committee has recently run a Cash Bingo night on Saturday 13th
September. The event was great
fun for all involved and over £300 was raised towards Carnival expenses. Over the next few weeks
we continue to run events such as our popular Motorcycle Run starting from town on Sunday 28th
On Thursday the 18th Sepember at Cuttifords Door Garden Centre the crowning took place of Miss Chard and carnival Princess. The Mayor Jenny Kenton crowned the girls and congratulated them all on the £6,500 they raised which is a fantastic amount of money .
The winner of the Miss Chard contest 2014 is 13 year old Chelsie Bale. Chelsie is a pupil at Holyrood Academy and she raised money by holding cake sales, car boot sales and a number grid. Chelsie enjoys football.
Our Carnival Princess this year is 9 year old Maia Watson. Maia is a pupil of Redstart School and raised money by holding a garden party, car boot sales, yard sales, a raffle and bingo. Maia dances with the Kelly Leigh School of Dance and is a member of Ilminster swimming club.
This year we also have two Princess Attendants: Abi Winter aged 8 and Kaysha Hatson aged 7. They too held raffle ticket sales, car boot, selling cakes at there school, and held a family day at one of our local pubs.
Last years winner Patience Scott presented the winners with the Carnival Cup.

September and the Carnival Quiz at the Lordleaze Hotel; 7pm on Saturday 5th
October.
The Children’s Carnival takes place on Saturday 4th
October starting at Manor Court School at 12
noon. The route will be down Mill Lane to Boden Street, up Fore Street past the Guildhall, along
Holyrood Street and then back to Manor Court. This normally takes less than 45 minutes and roads
will be closed at this time using a “Rolling Road block”.
Our main carnival procession takes place on Saturday 11th
October. The procession starts from the
Numatics Site at 7.25pm and follows a route through town via Old Town, St Marys Church,
Crowshute Link and then down the High Street finishing at Victoria Roundabout and exiting back into
the Numatic Site. Before, during and after the procession it is necessary for public safety to close
some of the roads in and around the town centre. These closures are effective from 6.30pm until
approximately 10.30pm. Diversion routes are clearly marked on the approach to town and all road
closures are manned by official marshals.
We’re hoping for a great turnout to both of our Carnivals and the events this year – the carnival
clubs have been working hard all year to make the processions great fun to watch. We hope you can
spare some change to put into the collections at both events. We couldn’t run a carnival without the
public and your continued support means so much to us. This year funds raised will be going straight
back into charitable causes in and around Chard and we would continue to welcome any potential
organisations to get in touch with the committee to be included on our list
